Dramaturgy Highlights

Commedia dell'Arte + Baby Shakespeare = a BFA thesis!

This BFA thesis was born out of a love for Commedia dell'Arte, a masked physical theatre form born in Renaissance Italy. All production dramaturgy aimed to help our audience and troupe of performers find a home in one of Shakespeare's earliest-written comedies, by way of the silly, scrappy, improvisatory world of Commedia dell'Arte. I collaborated with Directors Gabriela Tovar-Borghini and Zack Mallgrave to streamline the original Two Gentlemen of Verona text for our thesis goals, designed a lobby display, and in the spirit of a commedia troupe, I got to perform in the production as well!

The Dreamer: A Midsummer Night's Dream Through the Eyes of a Young Girl

Director Kate Mueth recruited me to dramaturg this piece as we developed it from devising workshops into its Off-Broadway incarnation, a Spring 2023 run at HERE Arts Center. The Dreamer imagines that A Midsummer Night's Dream springs from the subconscious of a young girl on the cusp of womanhood in 2023. My dramaturgy for this piece ties together Jungian psychology of dreams with research that puts cultural, historical, and spiritual perspectives on womanhood in conversation with the history of the climate crisis.

I facilitated research-led conversations within the devising workshops, made a dramaturgy packet, and hosted a talkback at HERE.

Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts' Shakespeare in American Communities program, The Neo-Political Cowgirls (NPC) revived The Dreamer at Longhouse Reserve and LTV Studios in August and October of 2023, respectively. Alongside NPC Founder and Artistic Director Kate Mueth, I co-developed an educational curriculum and an interactive Dreamer performance that we delivered to 200+ K-12 students. As a Teaching Artist for NPC, I also co-led a four-hour bilingual (English & Spanish) Shakespeare and devised theatre workshop for 50+ middle-high-school students.
